I sat through a series of presentations a couple of weeks back that were universally terrible. Slide after slide of PowerPoint, most of which the presenters simply read out (why not just send a mail if that’s all they are going to do??). Probably in a monotone, but given the fact that I could also hardly hear most of the presenters, it's hard to tell. These were all relatively short presentations, up to ten minutes maximum, but even so, it's amazing how quickly one's attention can drift off if a presenter doesn't capture and hold our attention.
At the Hive meetup, at least the situation can never be quite so dire! Our pitchers are strictly limited to one minute for their pitch – and best of all, no slides! These minute pitches are a unique challenge, and it's one that we'd like to help with, by running coaching sessions for our pitchers prior to each event.
Drawing on a range of lessons, ranging from Ridley Scott to an Indian folk tale we'll provide practical advice and hopefully some inspiration to help you get your message across effectively. And even have fun doing so.
We can't guarantee to cure sweaty palms or nerves – but you might come away realising that you might not even want them cured.
